Whittlesey, Faith Ryan – Former US Ambassador to Switzerland

Faith Ryan Whittlesey

Mrs. Whittlesey served two terms under President Ronald Reagan as the US Ambassador to Switzerland from 1981-1983 and again from 1985-1988. She was a senior member of the White House staff as Director of the Office of Public Liaison during the two years period between her two tours as Ambassador.

Earlier, Mrs. Whittlesey served as an Assistant US Attorney in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and as a Special Assistant Attorney General in the Pennsylvania Department of Justice. She was elected twice to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from a suburban Philadelphia district and served for six years as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Delaware County Council, a county of some 600,000 inhabitants in southeastern Pennsylvania .

She is retired as the President and Chairman of the American Swiss Foundation, headquartered in New York City , and Chairman of the Board of Overseers of The Institute of World Politics, a graduate school of statecraft and national security affairs in Washington, DC . She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Christian Freedom International. Mrs. Whittlesey also serves on a number of charitable and corporate boards, including Valassis Corporation and Schindler Elevator, USA .

Mrs. Whittlesey is a Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude graduate of Wells College , and received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania . She is the past recipient of three honorary doctorates and a Ford Foundation grant to attend the Hague Academy of International Law.
